The Imperial Memories bowl collection brings the arc language of the series to the most intimate vessel form — the bowl held in both hands. Four sizes move from the generous Large Bowl to the delicate Mini Bowl, while the Lidded Cup extends the range into tea and broth. Each piece is high-fired white porcelain, designed to be used every day and kept for a lifetime.

Why Imperial Memories Bowls | Why This Set

Four sizes, one complete logic. Large for soup, Medium for rice, Small for side dishes, Mini for dessert or condiments — the sizing is deliberate, not arbitrary. Each bowl knows its role.

The arc of the rim is a hand decision. The inward curve at the rim affects how the palm wraps around the bowl when held with both hands — Imperial Memories bowls are designed to feel as considered as they look.

The Lidded Cup is the most versatile piece in the series. It functions as a gaiwan for individual tea brewing, a covered soup bowl, or a dessert vessel. The lid knob echoes the arc of the cup body — opening and closing it is itself a small gesture of ceremony.

White that honors the food. Whether rice, broth, seasonal fruit, or afternoon pastry — white porcelain steps back and lets the food speak. The result is a table that looks composed without effort.

Inspiration | Reading Life's Philosophy in the Language of Objects

The wall thickness of each bowl was calibrated carefully — thin enough that light passes through the glaze to reveal the warmth characteristic of high-fired white porcelain, substantial enough that holding the bowl conveys a sense of quiet weight.

The Lidded Cup presents one of the highest technical challenges in the Imperial Memories series: the lid and cup must be thrown separately, with shrinkage rates calculated precisely so that the two pieces achieve a perfect fit after firing. A gap of even a fraction of a millimeter is considered unacceptable.

Details

Design Concept

The Imperial Memories Bowl and Lidded Cup set extends the founding vision of NewChi Porcelain — that everyday objects should carry the same design intelligence as objects made purely for display. Heinrich Wang designed these bowls to be held, used, and noticed: not as decorative pieces that happen to function, but as functional pieces with the density of art. The arc, the weight, the way the rim meets the lip — each detail is resolved rather than assumed.

Usage Scenarios

Personal use: Those who want the ritual of daily meals to feel as intentional as the rest of their considered life

Gifting: Housewarming, wedding, parents' milestone birthdays, retirement — pieces that will be used every day and remembered

Collecting: As a founding series of NewChi Porcelain, Imperial Memories carries lasting value beyond function
