The arc is a technical breakthrough, not a decoration. White porcelain shrinks and warps during high-temperature firing — the layered arc structure of the round cup pushed the boundaries of what traditional craft considered possible. These lines exist because Heinrich Wang spent two years making them stand.
The blade handle guides how you hold it. The flat, wing-like handle is designed to produce a specific gesture: thumb and forefinger pinching lightly at the sides, the middle finger resting along the lower arc. This grip sends a quiet gravity from fingertip to mind. It is not a coincidence. It is a design decision.
The saucer has a seat. The cup must be returned to it. Each Imperial Memories saucer is designed with a precise seat for its cup — not a flat surface the cup happens to rest on, but a position it belongs to. Lifting is conscious. Returning is ceremonious. The ritual is complete only when the cup is back where it belongs.
The rising platform — a stage for the act of drinking. The layered structure of cup on saucer builds upward like temple steps, presiding over the moment of drinking with quiet formality. Setting the cup back down is the closing gesture of a private ceremony.
Gloss and matte — two moods, one design. The gloss finish reflects light, making the geometry crisp and contemporary. The matte finish absorbs light, giving the surface a warmer, more contemplative presence. Same form, two entirely different atmospheres.

Morning ritual
A cup of tea or coffee held in the deliberate grip of Imperial Memories — the act of lifting slows you down before the day begins. The saucer waits for the cup to return.
Afternoon tea or tasting
The round arc language suits a formal or semi-formal tea setting. Paired with the Imperial Memories teapot, the table holds a single, unified visual vocabulary.
Receiving guests
Presenting Imperial Memories to an important guest says something before a word is spoken. The care of the object communicates the weight of the occasion.

創作靈感｜從器物語言讀生活哲思

The blade handle of the Imperial Memories cup is its most recognized element — a thin flat form extending from the cup body, suspended in the air. In white porcelain, this is among the most technically demanding structures to achieve: the wet clay body has no structural strength, and the high-temperature kiln softens the porcelain before it vitrifies. Every finished handle represents a precisely calculated prediction of shrinkage and deformation — resolved before the clay enters the kiln.

The arc layers of the cup body are not evenly spaced. Their intervals are calibrated by visual weight rather than mathematical equal division, so that the proportions read as stable when the set is at rest and as dynamic when the cup is lifted.

設計理念

The Imperial Memories Round Cup and Saucer Set is the work that began everything at NewChi Porcelain. After three years of visiting over a hundred porcelain factories across Asia and Europe — every one of which refused to produce his designs — Heinrich Wang built his own workshop and spent two further years in research and development before a complete, uncompromised piece could be fired. The layered arc handle, the wide flat surfaces, the precise saucer seat: all were considered technically impossible before Wang resolved them one by one. Each piece in the Imperial Memories series is not only a functional object but a record of that resolution.

The saucer's cup seat is designed to receive the cup at a specific position and angle. Returning the cup to its seat after each sip is a built-in gesture — a small, unhurried act of respect toward the object and toward the ritual of drinking itself.
